Bengaluru: CCB police thwart a major expired-medicine supply disaster

In a significant development, the Central Crime Branch police executed a raid on a pharmaceutical company situated in Rajajinagar, leading to the arrest of the company owner and his son.

The duo stands accused of providing expired medicines and cosmetics to various medical shops, as well as beauty salons, both within the city of Bengaluru and in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Their modus operandi involved erasing the original manufacturing and expiry dates on the products before re-stamping them for resale. Authorities have confiscated a total of Rs 1.5 crore worth of medicines and cosmetics.

The individuals in custody have been identified as Jai Bachhawat (68) and his son Abhishek Bachhawat (22), who reside in Okalipuram. Their company is situated in Rajajinagar. The complaint was filed against them at Rajajinagar police station by Chadrakala Shilpa, an Assistant Drug Controller in Bengaluru.

Acting on credible information, the Central Crime Branch police sought the assistance of the Drugs Control Department to initiate legal proceedings against the accused.

According to an officer, the accused were sourcing medicines and cosmetics from various locations, including Punjab and Haryana, and distributing them to medical stores in Bengaluru and the neighboring states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Their unlawful practice involved re-stamping expired items, although the duration for which they had been carrying out these activities remains undisclosed. Following the successful raid, the Central Crime Branch officials transferred the father and son to the custody of the Rajajinagar police station.
