The Chamarajapete Traffic Police have solved a challenging hit-and-run case from December 27, 2024, using advanced technical evidence, marking a significant achievement in law enforcement. The incident claimed the life of 60-year-old Shankar Jatti, a resident of Chamarajapete, who was struck by a cement lorry while returning home with vegetables from Market Flyover. With no CCTV footage at the scene, the investigation posed a formidable challenge, but the police’s meticulous approach paid off.

Shankar was crossing the flyover when a speeding cement lorry hit him and fled, leaving no immediate clues. Undeterred, the police gathered data on all vehicles that passed the area during the incident. Initial interrogations of drivers yielded denials, but tire marks suggested a heavy vehicle was involved. This led the team to focus on two lorries, a cement lorry and a water tanker, that had traversed the route. A detailed inspection followed, and a luminol test on the cement lorry revealed traces of blood and bone fragments. Comparing these with Shankar’s DNA confirmed the vehicle as the crime scene, pinpointing driver Vijay Kumar from Kumbalgodu Cement Mixing Factory as the culprit.
Vijay was apprehended after months of investigation, admitting his role under questioning. The police’s use of luminol and DNA tests, combined with tire mark analysis, turned a blind case into a breakthrough success. Senior officials have praised the Chamarajapete team for their persistence and innovative methods, likening their efforts to a cinematic thriller.
Shankar’s family expressed relief at the resolution, though they mourn his loss. The police continue to investigate to ensure justice is fully served, while the community applauds the force’s dedication.
