The much-anticipated Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is partially open for public use, with the Karnataka segment of the project now completed. Once fully operational, the 288-km expressway will significantly cut travel time between the two cities to just two and a half hours.

The expressway spans 71 km in Karnataka, 72 km in Andhra Pradesh, and 145 km in Tamil Nadu. While the Karnataka section is now accessible, work in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu is still ongoing. Due to this, an official inauguration has not yet taken place. However, local commuters have already started using the completed stretch.
Unlike other highways, service roads have not been included in the expressway design due to safety concerns. Authorities believe this will help prevent accidents and ensure smoother traffic flow. The toll fee structure is yet to be finalized, but it is expected to be higher than existing highways, given the expressway’s uninterrupted connectivity and faster travel time.
Once the remaining construction is completed in other states, the expressway is set to become a major game-changer in South India’s transportation network. Officials are optimistic that the pending work will be wrapped up within the year, paving the way for the official inauguration of this high-speed corridor between Bengaluru and Chennai.
