In a significant development for South Indian infrastructure, the much-anticipated Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is nearing completion on its Karnataka segment, with a 71-km stretch set to open by the end of November.
Reportedly, an official from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) confirmed that the recent relocation of a temple has resolved the last obstacle for the project’s final 400 meters, allowing rapid progress towards completion.

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway spans 260 km, with the Karnataka section covering 71 km from Hoskote to Bethamangala. This expressway, South India’s first greenfield expressway, aims to revolutionize regional travel, enabling vehicles to reach speeds of up to 120 km/h and cutting travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai from six hours to under three. Developed at a cost of Rs 17,900 crore, the project is divided into three construction segments within Karnataka: Hoskote to Malur (27.1 km), Malur to Bangarpet (27.1 km), and Bangarpet to Bethamangala (17.5 km).
Originally scheduled for full completion by March, delays in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu pushed the anticipated opening to next year. In the meantime, Karnataka’s completed sections will soon open for public use, enhancing connectivity from Bengaluru to Malur and Bangarpet. Once completed, the expressway is expected to play a crucial role in easing congestion and stimulating economic growth across the region.
