The residents of the Kammanahalli area in the north-eastern part of Bengaluru are faced with a predicament. The condition of a skywalk in the region is in a shambles. The roof has been thoroughly damaged. Passing through the region in the rainy season has become a nightmare. Cables have been left hanging on the railings of the skywalk. The pathway has been littered with garbage. A stench emanates from the skywalk during rainy seasons. The garbage along the path has not been cleared in a long while. The Banaswadi Traffic reportedly brought this incident to the notice of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials but no action has been taken in this regard. The hoardings on the skywalk are aiding in revenue generation but it has not been into use.
The skywalk has also become a safe place for alcoholics to hang out at night making it unsafe for women.
Anger and discontentment has been brewing among citizens over this issue. They have been forced to cross a road that is almost loaded with traffic coming from multiple directions making the task risky for them. At the same it has also become a daunting task for drivers to navigate this terrain due to the presence of pedestrians. A portion of the blame must also be directed towards the citizens for carelessly littering along the construction.
