  • Bengaluru resident urges MPs to support RRTS for faster regional connectivity
  • RRTS could link multiple towns and reduce travel time to under an hour
  • Debate continues over balancing metro expansion versus high-speed regional rail

In a recent social media appeal, a Bengaluru resident using the Twitter handle @naveen_gowda3 called upon MPs including V. Somanna and Tejasvi Surya to champion the implementation of a Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) connecting Bengaluru to nearby towns. The user emphasized the need for seamless travel linking Kolar, Tumakuru, Kanakapura, Electronic City, Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL), Mysuru, and Hassan, enabling commuters to cover distances of over 120 km in under an hour.

This proposal comes amid growing concerns over Bengaluru’s traffic congestion and inadequate public transport infrastructure. Advocates argue that an RRTS would provide a transformative solution by reducing travel times and boosting regional connectivity. However, there are differing opinions among policymakers. While some support extending the Namma Metro to nearby towns, others suggest focusing on completing the existing metro network and prioritizing suburban rail or RRTS for intercity travel.

The proposal also aligns with ongoing discussions around new semi-high-speed train services and regional development plans aimed at modernizing Karnataka’s transit infrastructure.
