Bengaluru coffee brand introduces patent-pending mushroom-infused coffee

Mushroom coffee has been gaining popularity worldwide, and Bengaluru-based Maverick & Farmer is bringing a unique twist to the Indian market. Unlike existing instant or powdered mushroom coffee options, the artisanal brand has launched whole bean-infused coffee using a new infusion technology developed in collaboration with Nuvedo. This process, applied at the roasting stage, is currently in the process of being patented.

Mushroom coffee originated during World War II as a coffee substitute due to bean shortages. Today, it is valued for its lower acidity, reduced caffeine content, and potential cognitive benefits. Typically made using mushroom extracts like lion’s mane, reishi, or chaga, most options available in India prioritize mushroom content over coffee flavor. Maverick & Farmer, however, aims to strike a balance by preserving the bold, smooth taste of Arabica coffee while ensuring the effectiveness of the mushroom infusion.

The brand’s new blend features lion’s mane mushroom extract sourced from Nuvedo, a Bengaluru-based company known for its advanced extraction technology using ultrasound vibrations. The coffee is available as whole beans, allowing consumers to grind and brew it according to their preferences. With chocolate and caramel notes and a medium to dark roast profile, the coffee maintains the familiar richness of traditional brews while incorporating the earthy sweetness of lion’s mane mushrooms.

Priced at ₹1,700 for 200g, Lion’s Mane Mushroom Coffee is available online and at Maverick & Farmer outlets across India.
