  • Good Shepherd College in Bengaluru has declared a holiday on March 27 for Empuraan's release

The anticipation surrounding Malayalam cinema continues to grow, reaching audiences well beyond Kerala. As the highly awaited Mohanlal-starrer Empuraan nears its release on March 27, a Bengaluru based college has  taken a unique step to mark this occasion.

Good Shepherd college in Bengaluru has officially declared March 27 as a holiday, allowing students to watch Empuraan in theatres. The announcement  humorously titled “Lights, Camera, Holiday!” by the college management is a tribute to Mohanlal, driven by the chairman’s deep admiration for the legendary actor.

College organizes exclusive screening

In addition to the holiday, the institution has arranged a special 7 AM screening at the YGR Mall in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The college will provide free tickets to students, ensuring they experience the film firsthand. A social media post from the college highlighted the significance of this initiative calling it a celebration of Mohanlal’s cinematic brilliance and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s visionary direction.

Similar celebrations in the past

This fan-driven enthusiasm is not new. During the release of Rajinikanth’s Jailer in 2023, multiple companies in Chennai and Bengaluru granted employees a day off to watch the movie, with some even providing free tickets. A similar trend was seen in 2016 during the release of Kabali, when several colleges in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka declared holidays, expecting students to skip classes for the film. Some institutions even organized special screenings, turning the occasion into a festival-like celebration.
