A couple attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosine over themselves outside gate number 3 of the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. The husband and wife had borrowed a loan from a bank for business related purposes and were allegedly facing harassment over their inability to repay the loan. 

Shahistha Banu and her husband Munayudhulla had borrowed a loan of Rs 50 lakh from the Operative Bank. However the amount that they are bound to repay is Rs 97 lakh. The bank officials have been accused of harassing the couple over this issue. 

The couple raised slogans of having faced injustice outside gate number 3 of the Vidhana Soudha and poured kerosine over themselves. The police officials present at the location thwarted their attempt at self immolation and took custody of them. They were later handed over to officials in the Vidhana Soudha Police Station. The couple hail from the Padarayanapura region of the Chamrajpet area of Bengaluru. The Indian National Congress (INC) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Chamrajpet Zameer Ahmed Khan has promised to offer the couple assistance.
