A special court in Bengaluru has handed over confiscated assets, including 27 kg of gold jewellery, land records for 1,526 acres, and bank deposits worth ₹10 crore, to the Tamil Nadu government. These assets were seized from former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and others in the disproportionate assets (DA) case.
Judge H.A. Mohan ruled that Tamil Nadu could auction the jewellery, which includes diamond, ruby, and emerald-studded pieces, or sell it to the Reserve Bank of India after valuation. Among the notable items were a golden waist belt, a crown, and a sword.

The court also allowed Tamil Nadu to either retain the 1,526 acres of land across seven districts for public purposes, such as allocating sites to the landless poor, or sell it to fund rural health and education infrastructure.
A Tamil Nadu delegation, including Joint Secretary (Home) J. Anne Mary Swarna and SP (DVAC) Vimala, took charge of the assets, with the handover process being videographed as per court instructions.
The court emphasized that proceeds from the sale should benefit rural communities, serving the public interest and reinforcing constitutional principles. Additionally, ₹13 crore from the convicts’ deposited fine was allocated to Karnataka for trial expenses, with the remaining ₹7 crore given to Tamil Nadu.
