In two separate incidents, customs authorities at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) apprehended eight travelers arriving from Sharjah and confiscated various items including electronic devices, cigars and liquor bottles.
The Bengaluru Air customs office confirmed the incidents through a press release, revealing that all eight passengers disembarked from Air Arabia flight G9-496 at Kempegowda International Airport. These seizures were initiated based on passenger profiling.
Initially, customs officials intercepted seven passengers, uncovering that each of them was carrying three used laptops, four bottles of liquor, and 1,000 cigarettes, along with a few used mobile phones.
In total, the authorities seized 75 mobile phones (including iPhones, Vivo, and Samsung models), 21 laptops, 28 liquor bottles, and 7,000 cigarettes from these passengers.
Additionally, a female passenger who arrived on the same flight was also intercepted due to her possession of 49,600 ITC brand cigarettes, stored in 248 outer containers spread across three bags.
