Bengaluru customs officials were shocked to find various species of wild animals being smuggled in a suitcase at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on August 21.

All the smuggled wild animals were distressed for being stuffed in a suitcase, and a baby Kangaroo was found dead in the suitcase due to suffocation. Customs officials handed over the wild animals to the forest department for better care.

The suspect smuggler is identified as a 32-year-old man from Tamil Nadu who was in possession of suitcase containing live reptiles, including turtles and snakes. Customs officials recovered 234 wild animals from his suitcase.

The animals were smuggled from Bangkok to Bengaluru by a wildlife trafficker.

Air intelligence unit (AIU) officers of the Bengaluru Customs were in shock after they found that a baby Kangaroo had died in the suitcase.

A thorough inspection of the trafficker and his belongings by customs officials revealed that various species of wild animals were being smuggled into Bengaluru from Bangkok.

The suspect trafficker maintained his innocence saying that he  was not aware of the contents in his suitcase, the suitcase was handed over to him with instrucitons to deliver it in Bengaluru.

Customs officials have launched a thorough investigation into this smuggling case.
