The fraudsters reportedly used a fake number, set her display picture (DP) on WhatsApp, and sent messages asking for financial help. “I need money, please send it,” read the fraudulent messages. The scammers allegedly engaged in extortion by pretending to be the actress and soliciting funds.

Sharanya Shetty took to her official social media account to warn fans and followers about the scam. “This is a fake WhatsApp. Do not send money to anyone claiming to be me,” she wrote. She further stated that she would be filing a cybercrime complaint against the fraudsters.

Cases of impersonation and financial fraud targeting celebrities have been on the rise, with cybercriminals exploiting public trust in famous personalities. The actress has urged her followers to stay vigilant and verify any suspicious requests.

Authorities are expected to investigate the matter, and Shetty has vowed to take legal action against those involved. This incident highlights the growing threat of digital scams, reinforcing the need for caution when dealing with financial requests online.
