  • This comes after a series of raids that uncovered violations at 25+ pubs
  • This move aims to help jurisdictional police monitor adherence to legal norms

Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) has mandated daily CCTV footage submission from pub owners following a series of raids that uncovered several violations across more than 25 pubs in the Central and West divisions of the city.

The enforcement action, which targeted pubs and restaurants, revealed serious breaches including extended operating hours, sale of alcohol to underage patrons, and inappropriate treatment of female employees. Authorities also noted instances of public indecency during the late-night inspections.

In response, the CCB convened a meeting with the proprietors of the raided venues. They were instructed to ensure full compliance with existing laws, such as excise regulations, the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), and employee conduct and dress code policies.

The decision to demand daily submission of surveillance footage aims to help jurisdictional police monitor ongoing adherence to legal norms and curb recurring misconduct. The footage is expected to serve as a preventive measure, enabling authorities to swiftly detect any unlawful activity.

This move marks a stricter stance by the police to regulate nightlife in Bengaluru, especially in zones known for late-night entertainment. The CCB has also warned that continued non-compliance will attract stringent penalties and possible closure of establishments.

The directive signals heightened scrutiny on nightlife venues, as authorities seek to maintain public order and ensure safety standards are upheld across the hospitality sector.
