January 31st would be the last day of service for the Director of the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Science and Research Dr C.N Manjunath. A farewell party was arranged for him. This was attended by the Former Prime Minister H.D Deve Gowda and the Minister of Higher Education M.C Sudhakar.
Deve Gowda became emotional on this occasion. “He has worked for 18 years. I wish he could continue. I had asked him to think about what the future for the institute would look like after he leaves. I hope the Director who succeeds him has the same vision. People from across the nation and globe would visit the centre for free healthcare. I am 91-years-old. There is no occasion which could have brought me more joy. There is nothing that could have made me prouder,” Deve Gowda expressed.
Deve Gowda felt proud upon being the father-in-law of C.N Manjunath. “You can earn in crores by serving in a foreign country. But the satisfaction of serving your own people is different. I had once told Mnjnath that to serve poor people one must remain in India. He heeded to my words. He promised me that he would never leave the country,” he added.
