A 67-year-old man narrowly escaped death at Manipal Hospital, Varthur Road, thanks to the quick thinking of Dr. Rocky Kathreya. The patient, who had been suffering from chest pain for three days, visited the hospital suspecting a gastric issue. While waiting at the reception, he suddenly collapsed from his chair, sparking panic among staff. Fortunately, Dr. Kathreya, on duty at the outpatient department, rushed to the scene.

Recognizing the emergency, he immediately performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the unresponsive man, stabilizing him before transferring him to the emergency ward. Subsequent tests revealed the patient had suffered a minor heart attack, a critical condition requiring urgent intervention. Within an hour, with the aid of a ventilator and advanced cardiac care, the man regained consciousness.
The hospital’s swift response and Dr. Kathreya’s expertise were pivotal in averting a tragedy. Medical staff conducted further examinations to confirm the diagnosis and administered intensive treatment to ensure the patient’s recovery.
Dr. Kathreya’s actions highlight the life-saving impact of medical training and presence of mind in high-pressure situations. The patient, now stable, owes his survival to the doctor’s decisive intervention and the hospital’s state-of-the-art facilities, including its specialized cardiac care unit.
