Cyber fraudsters are giving the police sleepless nights in Bengaluru. In the last one month, 750 cases have been registered against unidentified cyber fraudsters cheating in the name of courier delivery services by demanding Rs 2 for delivery of consignment.
Modus Operandi
Fraudsters would first make a phone call to targeted individuals telling them they have received a courier. Then, to receive the courier, they would send a link to individuals asking them to pay Rs 2 to get the courier delivered.
Once this small amount was transferred, a little later, a significant sum from the same account would be lost to these fraudsters. Increasing number of cases related to this fraud are being registered at various police stations across Bengaluru.
Within two minutes of sending the amount, the money in the account would disappear. Thus, it has come to light that more than 750 people were cheated in the city. It is said that many have lost thousands of rupees to this fraud.
Victims of this fraud are mostly educated people and techies who are complaining about these frauds. No matter how often the police raise awareness about cyber crimes, people still continue to fall prey to cyber frauds.
