As evening fell on Tuesday, heavy rains pounded Bengaluru, bringing the city to a standstill and leaving motorists stranded in waterlogged streets. Localities such as Town Hall, Mysore Bank Circle, Majestic, K.R. Market, and Lalbagh witnessed intense downpours, while areas like Malleshwaram and Yeshwantpur experienced continuous rain accompanied by thunder, triggering panic among commuters.

In the central parts of the city including Vasanthnagar, Cubbon Park Road, and Richmond Circle, roads were inundated, and vehicles moved at a snail’s pace as Varuna (the rain god) unleashed his fury. Many parts of Bengaluru, which had been reeling under heat until recently, heaved a sigh of relief — albeit briefly — as temperatures dipped following the showers.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall across Karnataka until May 19. A yellow alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada on May 15, Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri on May 14, and Vijayapura, Belgaum, and southern interior districts on May 15. Rain is expected to persist in Chitradurga, Hassan, and Kodagu on May 13, and in Mysuru, Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, and Ramanagara on May 14.

With widespread rains predicted across coastal and interior Karnataka, authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution and stay updated with local weather advisories.
