In Bengaluru, the safety of schoolchildren has come under serious threat as numerous cases of bus drivers ferrying students in a drunken state continue to surface. Special police drives to catch intoxicated drivers have revealed alarming levels of alcohol consumption, with many offenders registering blood alcohol levels over 40 gm/100 ml. Despite multiple cases being booked against them, compliance and adherence to safety measures appear negligible. Police have consistently notified school administrations about these incidents, yet the problem remains unresolved.

Parents have been left in a state of panic, fearing for their children’s safety during daily commutes. “It’s terrifying to think our kids are in such danger every day,” a worried parent stated.

Compounding the problem is the issue of overloaded school vans, for which police have also booked several cases. The authorities have emphasized that stringent action, including intensified checks and license suspensions, will continue to ensure compliance.

The police urge school administrations, transport operators, and parents to collaborate and enhance safety measures, aiming to put a stop to reckless behavior endangering children’s lives.
