A user on X (formerly known as Twitter), Vijaykumar Ghanshyam, had tagged Additional Director General of Police, Traffic and Road Safety, Alok Kumar in his post. He had uploaded a video wherein a lorry can be seen coming in the opposite side of the lane.
“sir today on Bangalore Mysore expressway saw several vehicles coming in opposite directions including 2 wheelers. Nothing has changed on this road sir please take some serious action,” he had captioned his post.
“Alok Kumar had responded to his post. The vehicle in question is being booked u/s 184 IMV Act for dangerous driving and we are recommending suspension of DL too. Notice has been issued. Henceforth, FIR will be registered against persons driving in opposite direction on NH & action will be taken for DL suspension too,” he posted.
Section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act states that, “Whoever, drives a motor vehicle at a speed or in a manner which is dangerous to the public or which causes a sense of alarm or distress to the occupants of the vehicle, other road users, and persons near roads, having regard to all the circumstances of case including the nature, condition and use of the place where the vehicle is driven and the amount of traffic which actually is at the time or which might reasonably be expected to be in the place, shall be punishable for the first offence with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year but shall not be less than six months or with fine which shall not be less than one thousand rupees but may extend to five thousand rupees, or with both.”
