To boost last-mile connectivity and promote eco-friendly travel, the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) is exploring the expansion of bicycle docking facilities at 10 additional Bengaluru Metro stations. The initiative follows a successful pilot collaboration with Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), which saw cycle stands and pedal ports installed at 10 initial stations.

The expansion plan will introduce cycle parking modules featuring covered stands and upgraded surface treatments at Kengeri Bus Terminal, KR Puram, Madavara, Chikkabidarakallu, Manjunatha Nagara, Dasarahalli, National College, Banashankari, Jaya Prakash Nagar, and Silk Institute stations. The selection was guided by factors such as ridership levels, available parking space, and positive user feedback from the pilot locations.
DULT's June 2024 evaluation of pilot stations like Nagasandra, Peenya, and Jayanagar revealed strong demand, with weekday occupancy reaching up to 113% at Yelachenahalli, Konanakunte Cross, and Swami Vivekananda Road. However, lower usage was noted at stations like Rajajinagar and Mahalakshmi Layout, likely due to other last-mile transport options. The study emphasized a preference for bicycle parking within paid areas, where enhanced security and surveillance are available.
By expanding cycle docking facilities, DULT aims to strengthen cycling as a viable, sustainable complement to Bengaluru’s public transit system.
