Model Road includes wide footpaths, high- rise pedestrian medians, and steel barricades

3.5 tonnes of plastic waste were utilised for construction

The roads were made with footpaths that are on the same level

Radialll India Private Limited , global manufacturer of interconnect components in association with PotHoleRaja,  a social venture bringing out social awareness about road safety have built a “Model Road” in the Peenya Industrial Area in collaboration with the BBMP. “Model roads are specifically designed with citizen-friendly infrastructure, which includes wide footpaths, high- rise pedestrian medians, and steel barricades that prevent two-wheelers from riding on footpaths. For footpaths, GridMatsR have been used, which are made from 100% recycled plastic. 3.5 tonnes of plastic waste were utilised, resulting in a 38-ton CO2 emission reduction. This reduction is equivalent to the emissions produced by driving a car for 150,000 km,” the joint statement from the 2 organisations stated.

The road has been constructed keeping in mind the needs of people with disabilities and was constructed in a period of 4 months. “The model road has been constructed by mixing 1.5 tonnes of shredded plastic waste and also features an efficient drainage system to prevent flooding during monsoons. Clear and visible road markings and traffic safety signs have been installed to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians. The roads were made with footpaths that are on the same level, with no breaks in between,” the statement mentioned.

A similar project was earlier executed from Dasarahalli Junction to ABB-Wistron Road, connecting to TVS Junction, Peenya.
