A date has been fixed for the commencement of the services of electric buses in Bengaluru. Recently 100 electric buses were added to the stock of buses in Bengaluru. Starting from December 26th, these buses will be open to public use.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will mark the inauguration. An event will be held outside the Vidhana Soudha to mark the commencement. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and the Minister of Transport Ramalinga Reddy will also partake in the event. In the first phase, 100 EV Vehicles from Tata will be functional in the city for a period of 12 years. These have been procured as part of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles 2 (FAME-2) scheme. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) procured 921 vehicles as part of the scheme.
Each bus is equipped with 4 CCTV cameras in order to ensure safety. If the vehicle is completely charged, the bus can ensure 200 KM of travel. 4 L.E.D destination boards and voice announcement systems have been installed in these buses. Panic buttons are also available at the disposal of women passengers. The buses also have vehicle location systems, fire detection and alarming systems in place.
