To enhance accessibility to electric vehicle infrastructure and support eco-friendly commuting, Bangalore Electric Supply Company Ltd (BESCOM) has devised plans to deploy approximately 22 EV chargers across regional transport offices in Karnataka. Among these, two chargers are designated for the Bengaluru RTO situated in HSR Layout.

A tender has been issued for the installation of EV charging stations at identified RTO premises across the state, with an estimated budget of Rs 3.63 crore. This allocation encompasses Rs 2,84,31,199.97 for electrical infrastructure and Rs 78,75,709 for civil works. BESCOM is allocating Rs 42,15,581 specifically for the establishment of EV charging stations at the HSR Layout RTO. Funding for this initiative is sourced from the transport department.

The strategic plan extends to various districts including Mysuru, Hassan, Mangaluru, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Hubballi, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Davanagere, Tumakuru, and additional locations within Bengaluru.

Aligning with the Karnataka Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Policy 2017, the state government had aimed to position Bengaluru as the electric vehicle hub of India, targeting investments worth Rs 31,000 crore and the creation of 55,000 new jobs by 2022.

Presently, BESCOM operates 700 charging stations equipped with 1537 chargers. These include 320 chargers and 195 charging stations funded by ESCOM, 112 chargers and 14 stations installed by government entities, and 491 charging stations with 1105 chargers facilitated by private enterprises.
