Hundreds of doctors protest in Bengaluru on Saturday
They seek protection for working doctors
As they protest, patients left in the lurch
Hundreds of doctors from Victoria, Kidwai, and Jayadeva hospitals, along with medical students, gathered at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Saturday to protest the brutal rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata. The protest, which began at 11:30 am, is part of a nationwide outcry led by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) against the increasing violence faced by medical professionals.

The IMA president, Dr. Srinivas, addressed the gathering, expressing the collective anger and frustration of the medical community. “We are protesting across the entire country. The young doctor was raped and murdered at midnight, and now there are attempts to destroy evidence. Where is the justice for a doctor who saves the lives of people? They promised a law to protect doctors, but where is it?” he questioned.
The protest comes in response to the horrific incident in Kolkata, which has sent shockwaves through the medical fraternity. As doctors demand justice and greater protection, the strike has also had a significant impact on healthcare services in Bengaluru.
Patients visiting hospitals like Victoria were left stranded, forced to endure long waiting hours, and many had to return home without receiving treatment. The situation has raised concerns among the general public, as essential medical services have been disrupted.
The protest is expected to continue until the authorities take concrete steps to address the safety of doctors and ensure justice for the victim.
