A man who was in a relationship with a woman for 2 years was set on fire after petrol was poured over him. He suffered 70% burns across his body. He was being treated at a hospital. He however succumbed to his injuries. 

The deceased individual has been identified as Rahul. He fell in love with a woman from the Muddebihal town in the Vijayapura district. They had broken up 2 years back. On May 26th, he entered his lover’s house. The incident of him being set on fire occurred during this time. Rahul’s father Ramanegowda registered a complaint against the woman’s father in the Muddebihal Police Station. The woman’s father named Parashuram was subsequently arrested. The woman is believed to have refused to get married with Rahul as his conduct was unbecoming. He is however said to have been persistently pursuing her despite her refusal. The accusation of having poured petrol comes in the backdrop of these events.

25-year-old Rahul was shifted to the Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru wherein he did not respond to the treatment and died. The woman’s uncle and a worker at her home were also injured in the incident and are being treated at the Victoria Hospital. The woman’s aunt and her husband recovered from their injuries. Complaints have been filed by both families. Investigation is underway.
