Exercise caution while applying for High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). There is a prevalence of fake QR (Quick Response) Codes that commuters trying to register online are being faced with. Fraud is taking place in the pretext of HSRP registration. Scanning the fake QR code is enough for scamsters to get access to the bank account of the user which they later ensure is emptied.

The Bengaluru police have requested citizens to exercise caution. An individual notified the police about this on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter). “I went online to get my HSRP plate registration and clicked on the first link. Filled in the details. The link led me to qr code and I opened to find the payee was a one named Mohd Asif. For reference I'm attaching the qr so people don't get scammed,” he stated while tagging the Bengaluru City Police and the Bengaluru City Traffic Police. “These are fraudsters, do not share any personal information. For any cyber crime related issues call 1930 and report,” The Bengaluru City Police’s X account said in response to his post.
