  • Rising heat: Bengaluru hits 33.3°C, exceeding norms
  • Cool nights: Temps dip to 17.1°C, slightly below average
  • La Niña effect: May impact weather in coming weeks

With summer approaching, Bengaluru has been witnessing a significant rise in daytime temperatures while nights remain relatively chilly. This stark contrast was evident on Thursday, when the city recorded a maximum temperature of 33.3°C, surpassing the seasonal average by 2.7°C. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature dipped to 17.1°C, marginally lower than the usual by 0.1°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Bengaluru is not alone in experiencing this warming trend. Other parts of South Interior Karnataka, including Chitradurga, Chintamani, and Mysuru, also recorded higher-than-normal daytime temperatures. This suggests an early transition into summer conditions across the region.

Meteorologists have pointed to the ongoing La Niña phenomenon as a possible factor influencing Bengaluru’s weather patterns. This climate pattern has led to heavy rainfall in Southeast Asia and northern Australia. Experts predict that its impact may extend to southern India over the next 5-6 weeks as sea surface temperatures (SSTs) rise, potentially altering local weather conditions.

While the city experiences warmer days, the lingering coolness of the nights continues to offer some respite. However, residents are advised to brace for a further rise in temperatures as Bengaluru gradually shifts into the summer season.
