Bengaluru witnessed a historic day for public transit on December 6, as Namma Metro ferried a record-breaking 9.2 lakh passengers. The surge was largely attributed to the highly anticipated Diljit Dosanjh concert, part of his Dil-Luminati Tour, held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC).

In a bid to accommodate the influx of concertgoers, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) extended its services past midnight. The decision proved pivotal, as a unique afterparty unfolded aboard the Green Line. Fans, still buzzing from Dosanjh’s performance, turned the late-night metro ride into a vibrant singalong, belting out the artist's rendition of Ikk Kudi from the 2016 Bollywood film Udta Punjab.

Videos of the impromptu celebration, showcasing straphangers united in song, have since gone viral, capturing the spirit of the evening. The concert marked another sold-out show for Dosanjh, who is currently touring India with three stops left in Indore, Chandigarh, and Guwahati.
The unprecedented ridership on December 6 surpassed Namma Metro’s previous record of 8.26 lakh passengers, achieved on August 14 during the Independence Day weekend. The milestone underscores the growing reliance on Bengaluru’s metro system for large-scale events, showcasing its role in easing urban mobility challenges.
BMRCL hailed the achievement as a testament to the city's vibrant culture and the metro’s adaptability in meeting passenger demands.
