  • GAIL aims to add 50,000 domestic connections for PNG supply annually
  • The company intends to achieve a target of 35,000 new connections
  • 4 lakh residents in the city have registered for domestic PNG supply

GAIL Gas Limited, the City Gas Distribution (CGD) company, aims to add 50,000 domestic connections for PNG supply annually in Bengaluru. However, various challenges, particularly the need to reroute pipelines due to other civic utilities sharing the same route, have impacted the project's progress. The company intends to achieve a target of 35,000 new connections before the conclusion of this financial year.

Within the framework of the CGD project, GAIL Gas has been delivering Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to domestic, commercial, and industrial customers.

Since obtaining authorization from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) in February 2015, GAIL Gas has laid approximately 2,000 kilometers of pipelines in Bengaluru. While 2.5 lakh households are connected to the pipeline, only 80,000 households are currently receiving PNG supply. A total of 4 lakh residents in the city have registered for domestic PNG supply, according to officials from GAIL Gas.

In addition to domestic supply, GAIL Gas is also providing PNG to approximately 215 commercial establishments, 178 industrial units, and has established 102 CNG stations in the city.

The company plans to set up an additional 35 CNG stations by March 2024. In October of the previous year, the State cabinet approved the implementation of the State policy for the development of the CGD network in Karnataka. GAIL Gas anticipates that this decision will expedite the implementation of PNG and CNG projects.
