  • KAMS and RUPSA have expressed their dissapointment
  • This is antithetical to the fundamental right to education: Lokesh
  • Addition of more sections than allowed are being overlooked: RUPSA

An order from the Department of School Education of the Government of Karnataka that has mandated the closure of unauthorised schools has resulted in a mixed response from those who will be affected by this development. The Karnataka Associated Management of English Medium Schools (KAMS) and the Registered Unaided Private Schools Management (RUPSA) have expressed their disappointment with certain aspects of the circular.

They have claimed that the circular has been issued under pressure from influential figures. They allege that Kannada-Medium schools and “budget schools” that prescribe textbooks outside the Central and State Government’s directive as well as schools who have sought for the registration after changing their buildings but whose requests have not been cleared by the Department of School Education are being targeted through this circular. “Many children will face irreversible effects of such decisions. This is not legally tenable and antithetical to the fundamental right to education that children have,” President of RUPSA, Lokesh Thalikatti stated.

They have alleged that other violations of rules such as the addition of more sections than allowed are being overlooked since the schools are being run by politicians and capitalists who have a nexus with politicians.
