The downpour of rain across Bengaluru on 2nd June reminded people of an incident of the past. 110 millimetres of rain are reported to have been received in Bengaluru. A 133-year-old occurrence comes to mind with such figures. 

101.6 millimetres of rain was observed on June 18th, 1891. An X (formerly known as Twitter) user named Ravi Keerthi Gowda shared this information. Extrapolating from this, one can conclude that a 133-year-old record has been broken from the rainfall witnessed on June 2nd.

Many X users commented on the rain on Sunday. Some of them highlighted the infrastructural problems in the city. Others expressed joy over the event. Such an occurrence in the month of June is unprecedented. It is also an indication of better times that await the state of Karnataka. This would bring relief to farmers who suffered losses owing to the drought-like condition in 2023.

Chitradurga, Bagalkot, Bellary, Davangere and Vijayapiura received rainfall of a magnitude higher than Bengaluru. The Maradihallii region of Chitradurga recived an astonishing 168.5 millimetres of rain. Rains occurred across Karnataka. Tumkur, Haveri, Mandya and Raichur too received rain which was of a magnitude greater than 90 millimetres.
