A Bengaluru techie has recently flagged a troubling new scam involving some airport-bound cab drivers, cautioning travelers—particularly women—to stay vigilant. Shivam Sourav Jha, who posted the warning on X, shared details of the scheme, describing how certain cab drivers deceive passengers into paying extra under false pretenses. According to Jha, the driver claimed mid-journey that his vehicle was low on fuel and insisted that Jha pay for fuel at a nearby petrol station, claiming a charge of ₹1,100 but requesting only ₹1,000 from the passenger. When Jha hesitated, the driver threatened to abandon the trip midway, implying he’d miss his flight unless he complied.

Jha further explained that these drivers avoid the airport toll by taking alternative routes but still indirectly charge passengers by redirecting them to pay at fuel stations. In his post, he noted it was a Rapido ride and tagged various cab aggregators, urging them to address the scam and ensure passenger safety.
