The factory, established in partnership with Mahanagar Gas Limited, will cover 10 acres and is expected to commence operations within nine months. The first phase of the project will create 300 direct jobs and export 20% of its production to the United States and Europe.
Initially, IBC will continue importing cells from South Korea for battery assembly. Once operational, the factory will locally manufacture cells, marking it as India’s first cell-manufacturing facility.
In addition to catering to domestic and international markets, the plant is poised to expand its production to supply batteries for vehicles beyond two and three-wheelers.
The unit's development underscores Karnataka’s focus on fostering advanced manufacturing and clean energy technologies. This initiative aligns with the state government’s efforts to attract investments and strengthen its industrial footprint.
With its strategic location near Bengaluru airport and a focus on exports, the new facility is expected to enhance India’s position in the global electric vehicle supply chain while contributing to the local economy and sustainable mobility solutions.
