In a remarkable display of urgency and coordinated effort, a life-saving heart transplant operation was facilitated for a seven-year-old girl in Bengaluru.

The heart, sourced from a young donor, was transported a distance of 14 kilometers, spanning from Seshadripuram to Sparsh Hospital in RR Nagar, in an astonishingly short span of just 13 minutes and 17 seconds.

This critical journey, which served as a beacon of hope for the young patient, was meticulously orchestrated with the aid of the local traffic police, facilitating the creation of a swift and unobstructed ‘green corridor.’

The recipient of this crucial heart transplant had been grappling with the debilitating effects of dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition characterized by the abnormal thinning and enlargement of the heart’s ventricles.

Her heart’s ejection fraction had precipitously dropped to a perilous 15%, marking a critical stage in her battle against advanced heart failure.

Following exhaustive months of rigorous medical treatment and assessment, the young girl was officially enlisted for a heart transplant in November 2022.

Fortunately, a suitable donor, a 14-year-old boy, was eventually identified, and his heart was rapidly transported to the hospital, enabling the medical team to proceed with the life-saving transplant procedure without delay.
