Bengaluru police have handed over the investigation into lawyer Jeeva’s death to the Central Crime Branch (CCB), following serious allegations and growing public pressure. Jeeva, a law graduate and supplier for the Karnataka Bhovi Development Corporation, was found dead by suicide in her home last Friday.

The case was initially registered at Banashankari Police Station, with a preliminary investigation revealing an 11-page death note written by Jeeva. The note alleged humiliation during a police investigation tied to a Rs 97-crore scam involving the misuse of funds transferred to over 500 fake beneficiaries. Jeeva’s bank account reportedly received significant sums, raising suspicion about her involvement.
The incident came to light when Jeeva’s sister Sangeeta, unable to contact her, alerted a friend who discovered her body through a window. Her note specifically accused CID Investigating Officer Kanakalakshmi of harassment, prompting Jeeva’s family and lawyers to demand a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Amid mounting pressure and protests from the legal fraternity, Bengaluru Police Commissioner transferred the case to the CCB, citing the seriousness of the allegations. The case has raised questions about systemic corruption and procedural conduct, intensifying calls for an impartial investigation to ensure justice.
The death has cast a shadow on the ongoing scam probe, with both public and institutional trust hanging in the balance.
