Once Known as the hub of IT/BT companies and the textile industry, Bengaluru has now become a traffic hub. Despite several measures, the density of traffic on the streets still remains high. This has earned Bengaluru a bad reputation at a global level.
Bengaluru has become the most traffic dense city in India. At a global stage, it occupies the sixth rank. The Dutch Geolocation Technology firm named TomTom conducted a study covering 837 major cities across 55 countries and produced its report. In the top ten traffic dense cities, 2 cities from India were featured. These included Bengaluru and Pune. Pune occupied the seventh rank. Delhi was ranked 44th in the list. London topped the chart.
The average speed of vehicles in Bengaluru is 18 KM/H. 132 hours are spent in traffic on a yearly basis by the people of Bengaluru.
28 minutes and 10 seconds were required to cover 10 kilometres in Bengaluru. This has been reduced by one minute in comparison to 2022. The overall ranking of Bengaluru has also come down in comparison to the previous edition. “Next year we will drop even further. I know this may be hard to believe :) but Bengaluru is fighting back the traffic congestion in many ways. Metro & Bus are leading the way. With the yellow line, we will see more adoption of public transport,” Srinivas Alavilli, co-founder of Citizens For Bengaluru stated.
