The JAIN Deemed-to-be-university, School of Sciences (Department of Forensics Sciences, CUBEC) is organising a two-day international symposium and workshop on Wildlife forensics conservation, crime and prevention, starting November 27 on its JC Road Campus, Bengaluru.
The event is being held with several objectives:
a. To address wildlife law enforcement issues from direct application to legal casework.
b. To provide an introduction to wildlife forensics.
c. To maximise the impact of wildlife forensic science as it is essential that scientific, enforcement and policy communities work together.
d. To augment the Indian wildlife forensic community, stimulating ideas and questions from all the relevant stakeholders involved in tackling wildlife crime.
On day 1 of the event, experts will talk on important subjects like wildlife trafficking, illegal trade and repatriation, endangered species management and there will also be a panel discussion on contemporary challenges in mitigating Indian wildlife crime investigations.
Day 2 would be more interesting in that it will have parallel workshops on Crime Scene Investigation, Cyber-Wildlife Crime and DNA Analysis in Wildlife Crime Investigations.
Apart from these, several competitions are also being organised.
The following day, a satellite workshop on camera trapping will be held under the aegis of Dr Sanjay Gubbi, conservation biologist, at the Bannerghatta National Park.
