Suburban rail network to be integrated with airport's infrastructure

The Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-Ride) is considering the construction of two suburban rail stations within the premises of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). These stations are part of the larger plans for the Bengaluru suburban rail network, specifically Corridor-1 (Sampige line), which aims to connect Majestic to Devanahalli.

The proposed 48-kilometer line will consist of 21 kilometers of elevated tracks and 27 kilometers at-grade corridors, with nearly 6 kilometers running through KIA premises. One station is planned near Terminal-2 as part of the Multi-Modal Transport Hub (MMTH), while the other will cater to airport workers.

K-Ride is in consultation with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) regarding the integration of the suburban rail network with the airport’s infrastructure.

Alignment plans have been submitted to South Western Railway (SWR) for approval, with track doubling being incorporated into the design.

Rail activists are advocating for the swift implementation of Corridor-1, emphasizing its significance in providing convenient travel options from the city center to the airport. At Majestic, an integrated station linking Corridors 1 and 3 of the suburban rail network is planned, further enhancing connectivity across Bengaluru.
