  • KRV activists from across Karnataka will gather in Bengaluru
  • Narayana Gowda was arrested on 28th December

Activists of the Kannada Rakshana Vedike (KRV) are making arrangements to mark 1st January 2024 as the “Karala Dhina” (Dark day). They are angered as the President of KRV has still not been released by the police. They have placed a demand to the government to ensure his release at the earliest.

The KRV activists have planned a demonstration in the Freedom Park in Bengaluru. They have stated that arresting someone fighting for the just cause of preserving the language of Kannada is unfair. Their demonstration would be significantly aimed against the present ruling government. KRV activists from across Karnataka will gather in Bengaluru to mark their dissent.

Narayana Gowda was arrested on 28th December as the demonstrations of KRV against nameboards that violated the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) norms turned violent in several parts of the city. There were 3 charges levied on Narayana Gowda including obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty. 14 others were also arrested. Several activists who have come all the way from Bidar and Chamarajanagar have been subject to Lathi Charge by the police. They have sustained injuries on their hands and legs. The DCP did not arrange for food for the arrested activists. DCP Laxmi Prasad’s conduct reeked of arrogance. Being in a position of power does not grant him the authority to look down upon Kannada activists,” Narayana Gowda stated at the time of his arrest.
