Venturing into the realm of logistics, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) inaugurated its 'Namma Cargo' services on December 23, marking a strategic move to bolster non-fare box revenue.
In the initial phase, KSRTC will deploy 20 trucks to transport goods across the state, with ambitious plans to expand its fleet by an additional 500 trucks within the coming year.
The cargo services will commence by serving key districts, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Hassan, Mangaluru, Shivamogga, Chikkamagalur, Kolar, and Davanagere. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, launching the initiative in Bengaluru, emphasized the government's intention to augment the fleet rapidly, with an immediate addition of 100 trucks within a month and subsequent increments throughout the year.
In a strategic collaboration, KSRTC has partnered with two private entities, leasing trucks for a specified duration. Priced at Rs 17 lakh each, these trucks boast a capacity to carry six tonnes of goods.
The Basaveshwara Bus Terminal in Peenya is slated for full-scale utilization as KSRTC's logistical hub, showcasing the corporation's commitment to efficiently execute and manage cargo operations.
As part of their comprehensive strategy, KSRTC aims to provide cargo and logistics services to various government departments, further enhancing its role in the transportation sector.
