The ongoing renovation of the bonsai garden at Bengaluru’s Lalbagh Botanical Park is expected to be completed by March 2026, according to the Horticulture Department. The garden, which spans 2.5 acres near the Double Road entrance, has been under redevelopment for over two years.

The first phase of the project, costing between ₹50 lakh and ₹60 lakh, was completed in January 2025, following which the upgraded section was opened to the public. Enhancements include newly laid pathways, a Japanese pagoda-style entrance, and thematic elements such as a bamboo-fenced bonsai display.

Once the full renovation is complete, the garden will feature a bonsai eco shop, central fountain within a bonsai circle, refined landscaping, an expanded variety of bonsai trees, and a dedicated bonsai gallery. Additional elements like signage and information boards are scheduled to be installed by next year.

The bonsai garden was originally established in 2003 following a donation of 450 bonsai plants by the late S. Srinivas, widely known as "Bonsai Srinivas." It previously housed around 700 bonsai trees, and the upgraded version has introduced approximately 200 new specimens.

International bonsai expert Anupama Vedachala has been contributing to the redevelopment process for the past three years. The garden remains a popular attraction during the annual Lalbagh flower shows and continues to draw regular visitors appreciating its transformation.
