    'Statue of Dr. Ambedkar holding Constitution' likely to be the centerpiece

Bengaluru’s Lalbagh Botanical Garden is set to dazzle visitors with its annual Independence Day flower show, organized by the Horticulture Department, from August 8 to 19. This year’s theme will celebrate the life and achievements of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

Held biannually in the iconic Glass House, the flower show attracts thousands of visitors during Republic Day and Independence Day. The January 2024 edition, themed around social reformer Basavanna and other vachanakaras, saw a record-breaking attendance of 5.61 lakh visitors, generating revenue of ₹2.58 crore.

For the August show, visitors can expect a blend of floral artistry and educational displays, including information boards and busts highlighting Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions. While the main floral installations are yet to be finalized, the centerpiece is anticipated to be a grand floral model of Parliament House featuring a statue of Dr. Ambedkar holding the Constitution.

A team of horticulture experts and department officials will finalize the centerpiece and sub-themes. The event will showcase over five lakh potted plants, with the quantity of cut flowers to be determined once the designs are complete.

Ticket prices likely to remain unchanged, with entry set at ₹70 on weekdays and ₹80 on weekends. Children’s tickets woud be priced at ₹30 daily. The flower show promises to be a visual and educational feast, celebrating India’s rich heritage and Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring legacy.
