In a pioneering move to provide uninterrupted access to drinking water for Bengaluru residents, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has introduced an online initiative that delivers Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certified water to households. BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar V announced this initiative, named ‘Sanchari Cauvery-Cauvery on Wheels’, in a statement released on Thursday.

During a press conference, the chairman highlighted that water shortages become more severe in the summer, often leading private water tanker operators to charge exorbitant prices. This situation disproportionately affects ordinary citizens. To counter this, the Sanchari Cauvery scheme will prioritize 110 villages for efficient water supply at regulated rates.
The initiative will be accessible via a dedicated mobile app and website, which have already been developed and will soon be available for public use. Through these platforms, people can directly book drinking water which will be supplied from Cauvery Connect Centres.

The BWSSB has also instructed private tanker operators to register on the ‘Sanchari Cauvery’ platform. The owners will have two options:
- Lease their vehicles to BWSSB for service operations
- Register independently on the app or website to continue their business at regulated prices
To ensure smooth implementation, private water tanker owners must complete their registration by April 10. This first-of-its-kind initiative aims to bring transparency, affordability and convenience to Bengaluru’s water supply, reducing dependence on unregulated private suppliers while ensuring hat every household has access to safe drinking water.
