Bengaluru remains India’s top destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), hosting over 875 units that employ a significant portion of the nation’s 2.2 million GCC workforce. Known for its strong IT sector, skilled talent pool, and robust infrastructure, Bengaluru holds a dominant 34% share of the GCC market in India. As the city’s role as a GCC hub expands, the Karnataka government is working to replicate its success in other regions of the state.

The Karnataka government’s recently introduced GCC Policy 2024 aims to attract 500 new centres by 2029, which will create 3.5 lakh jobs and generate an economic output of $50 billion. This ambitious initiative targets 330 Forbes 2,000 companies to establish their GCCs in Karnataka by 2030.

As cities across India vie for GCC investments, Hyderabad has emerged as a key competitor. The Telangana government is also strengthening its position, recently signing a memorandum of understanding with the US Chamber of Commerce’s US-India Business Council to promote collaboration in IT, AI, and electronics.

Industry experts, including Mohandas Pai, founder of Aarin Capital, reportedly emphasize that while incentives such as land and power concessions are important, the real differentiator for attracting GCCs will be access to a skilled, youthful workforce. States are increasingly focusing on developing human capital to remain competitive in the growing GCC sector.
