A Namma Pride walk was held today (November 26) from Kanteerava Stadium to Town Hall in Bengaluru. Members of the community took part in the event and put forth a number of demands to the government. Also, they want to get into the mainstream and be treated as any other person.

Speaking to NewsFirst Prime, Rihanna Raju, an LGBTQ activist said, “We are the LGBQT community. There are many sexualties. We don’t want any sort of discrimination. We want the demands as mentioned in the Congress manifesto to be implemented.”

So what are the demands that the members of this community want?

The activist adds, “We want a welfare board. It should be set up right away. Many of our members are well-educated. Many think that we are only sex workers and resort to begging. But that is not true. We have an intense desire to work in the mainstream.”

Apart from these, the activists also want self-employment programmes, medical, educational facilities to be set up.

A sea of people gathered at the venue (Ravindra Kalakshetra) for the culmination.

However, though it is a protest, they reiterate that it is a celebration of their community and stress they want to identify themselves with the society.
