The proposal, put forth by Bengaluru Rural MP Dr. C.N. Manjunath, was approved after over a year of sustained follow-ups with the Union Finance Minister, Health Minister, and relevant authorities. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs498 crore, will come up on the NIMHANS North Campus and is expected to be completed within 30 months.
India faces a worrying burden of road accidents, about 15% of deaths in the country are due to road mishaps, and nearly 30% of accident victims suffer multiple injuries. In such cases, providing treatment during the ‘Golden Hour’ , the critical first hour after a traumatic injury is often the difference between life and death. The upcoming centre will be equipped to handle complex trauma cases efficiently and save precious lives.
This will be only the second dedicated Poly Trauma Centre in India, following the Jai Prakash Narayan Centre at AIIMS, New Delhi. Besides treating patients, the centre will also serve as a hub for advanced medical training, producing skilled specialists in trauma and emergency care.
Dr. Manjunath expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for supporting this vision. The new facility promises to benefit not just Bengaluru but thousands of accident victims across the state by delivering timely, high-quality trauma care.
