The Anekal police have arrested a 45-year-old realtor, Anand Kumar, for impersonating a relative of the Upa Lokayukta and attempting to coerce a deputy Tahsildar into registering property illegally. Kumar has been charged with impersonation, cheating, and using criminal force to obstruct a public servant.

The incident came to light on December 10, when Kumar called Kariya Naik, the deputy Tahsildar, claiming to be both a relative of the Upa Lokayukta and an employee of the Lokayukta office. Kumar instructed Naik to prioritize the registration of one acre of property belonging to an individual named Babu in someone else’s name.
To intensify the pressure, Kumar arranged for his associates to pose as senior Lokayukta officials, including an Inspector General of Police and a Superintendent of Police, making calls to Naik from different numbers to demand compliance.
Suspicious of the unusual demands, Naik contacted the Lokayukta office for clarification and discovered that Kumar had no ties to the organization. Following a preliminary inquiry, the deputy registrar filed a formal complaint with the Anekal police.
The police subsequently arrested Kumar and are now investigating his criminal history and possible connections to other fraudulent activities. The case highlights the misuse of authority to manipulate public servants and bypass legal processes.
