The victim, a Malleswaram resident employed in the finance department of a private company, reported the theft to the Cubbon Park police. According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Dileep Salaar, approached him while he was speaking with a colleague. Dileep was dressed in a knee-length gown, adorned with multiple malas, and carried a satchel along with a saint’s photograph.
Dileep requested a donation in the saint’s name, but the victim declined, citing a lack of money. In response, Dileep grabbed the victim’s shirt and checked for cash. A scuffle ensued during which Dileep snatched the gold ring from the man’s right hand.
Feigning innocence, Dileep pretended to swallow the ring and assured the victim it had "ascended to God." Despite a quick check, the ring was not found on him. Dileep fled the scene, but police later apprehended him.
Authorities are investigating the case, emphasizing vigilance against such deceptive tactics.
