Bengaluru: Man who greeted CM Siddaramaiah with gun in waist questioned by police

Campaigning for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections is underway. Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah is involved in the outreach of the Indian National Congress (INC) among voters. However, in one of his rallies, a security lapse has been observed. The actions of a person carrying a gun has caused commotion. His actions have led to suspicions. The police have taken note of the matter and summoned him for an enquiry. 

On April 8th, Siddaramaiah was campaigning in the Chickpete region of Bengaluru while endorsing Sowmya Reddy, the INC candidate from the Bengaluru South constituency. While campaigning from the top of a vehicle, the security officials for the Chief Minister were with him. The vehicle was surrounded by police officials. The man identified as Rayaaz, a supporter of Congress leader R.V Devaraj had a gun attached to his waist. He climbed onto the vehicle and even affixed a garland to the Chief Minister.

The police have questioned Rayaaz as to why he procured the licence for the gun and why it was not submitted to a police station before the election. Riyaz claimed to have been attacked before and perceived threat to his life. 

Leader of the opposition R.Ashok stated that a complaint will be made to the Election Commission of India in relation to this security lapse.
